Frequently asked questions

Q: OK, I've installed 3Dfla - where do I find it now?

A: 3Dfla consists of two components: A renderer for 3D Studio Max© and an importer plug in for Flash©.
Change your renderer settings in 3D Studio here (note that there's no need to change your material renderer, you will only use 3Dfla as your production renderer):

In Flash, you will find the importer here:

Q: Can I also use 3Dfla for high poly objects (Objects with many polygons)?

A: Well, it may work, but 3Dfla is made specifically for low poly objects. When dealing with too many polygon data, i.e. too many objects in the Flash timeline, the final swf filesize may increase significantly and eat up the advantage to raster image sequences.
In addition, when developing for mobile devices, we measured 20 fps with a 150 - 200 polygons scene. That means a rendering speed of abou 3000 - 4000 polygons per second, which is quite good for a Flash Lite application, but does not allow high poly approaches.

Q: When I tried to import my 3Dfla file, the whole software crashed - what am I doing wrong?

A: Due to the internal architecture of the Flash © development environment, JSFL processes (JavaScript Flash ) can cause crashes of the whole Flash software.

As the 3Dfla importer plug ins make use of JSFL, such crashes can also happen when using 3Dfla, whereas we can not do anything about this issue.

If such a crash happens when importing a 3Dfla file, please do not hesitate to restart Flash © over again, maybe close some other software and try again. Usually, it should then work fine.

O: I encountered some strange, incorrect rendering when importing a 3Dfla file. I could not reproduce it.

A: Another problem when using the JSFL approach to control the Flash © environment from within is that sometimes, position controls of the user interface are incorrectly calibrated. This causes incorrect rendering, such as triangles that are positioned obviously to far away from each other (large gaps appear) or completely out of place.

In this case, please do not hesitate to cancel the rendering procedure and try again. Usually, the next try will work out just fine.
